Eyes on Piedmont – A Cru U Elective
January 15, 2020 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm$50
It’s the start of the new year and we’re back at it with our Cru University Electives! Our electives are 2-hour seminars devoted to a single topic in wine. We are starting with one of the most exciting wine regions in the world right now – Piedmont. Led by Cru Cellars resident Italophile and Sommelier, Gabby.
We will learn everything about Piedmont from the monarchs of Italy (Barolo and Barbaresco) to the differentiating terroir shifts within this region – why are there seashells and whale fins in Asti? We will study the different grape varietals that are grown throughout Piedmont from Nebbiolo and Arneis to Grignolino and Erbaluce. Are you curious about the DOCg laws of Northern Italy? Are you wondering which are the best vintages to drink? Let’s talk about aging potential and the RIGHT time to open your bottle of 2015 Borgogno Barolo Riserva. (hint: it’s not now) We will taste outstanding examples of wines from these hills, with an eye towards understanding how and why Piedmont is such an incredible place for wine!
